West Ham 70,000 seater Stadium

It now seems possible the new stadium will hold a capacity of 70,000.

According to the Observer on-line, Eggy will be wanting a 70,000 seater stadium, which actually makes more sense, if we want to keep in-line with other major premiership clubs in the future.

“There are plans to increase, to 70,000, the capacity of the proposed new stadium at the Parcelforce site near Upton Park West Ham underground station. That is up by 10,000 on previous plans – though it could become irrelevant if West Ham are given the chance to move into the Olympic Stadium after the 2012 Games.

‘There is still a chance of that happening because there is a split among the responsible authorities,’ said an executive at the ODA, the body responsible for delivering the infrastructure of the London Games.”

It’s interesting that, looking through this week’s olas, there are still those who favour developing the Boleyn and fear the move to a potentially sanitised bigger stadium, minust the traditions of the Green St experience. One contributor even calls for a mass demonstration akkin to the bond / brown out demos of recent years. I think that there is unlikely to be an apetite for such amongst the newly apathetic ranks of increasingly nouveau football supporters!!

  • I hear what you say, but i dont see eggy & bjorg redeveloping The Boleyn Ground, Look at Arsenal’s finances since moving to Emerates or whatever the stupid name is. 300 millon a year turnover and they have also guarenteed wenger 70 mill for buying in January.
And looking at St james Road (Newcastle) stadium now , looks bloody ugly to me. lol
