Ex Arsenal & West Ham - Ian Wright “Why Not Green for England”?
Ian Wright ex Arsenal and West Ham player is happy with the selection of the England team by Capello (especialy because od SWP), but was surprised, like everyone else that Robert Green was not picked in the Original 30 1st selection, he went on to say to the Sun Newspaper:-
“The only decision I found strange was the one not to select Robert Green.”
“We are struggling in the goalkeeping department at the moment — particularly now Paul Robinson has lost his place — and I was surprised Chris Kirkland was selected ahead of Green on current form.”
His view is that every England supporter must be behind Capello 100% and give him the time needed to make England the team it was in the 60’s (I find that a bit hard to understand with only 1 West ham player in the squad).
I believe Green will be picked in the near future, but i do hope he does not think his problem for non selection is because he plays for West Ham.

Green’s non selection concerns me on a few different levels. Firstly, I cannot see that it can have escaped Capello that WHU have the best defensive record outside of the top 4 clubs, none of whom have an English ‘keeper. Secondly, even if you give James the nod at the moment (which I do, as it goes) you would be hard pushed to argue that Carson exceeds Green’s exploits - witness his poor positioning for the free kick against Fulham last Sunday! As for Kirkland - a club until last weekend in the bottom 3, this strikes me as odd in the extreme to include him over Rob. Thirdly, as the Rooster alludes to, it is what Greeny himself might conclude that worries me - does he now look to move in the summer believing that he is almost bound to be overlooked at WHU in terms of an England future?

As an Arsenal fan, I have to say that it makes no sense as to why Green is not in the England squad.
Upson was a good call up and proved it but Green is in my opinion the best English goalkeeper at the moment.
Doesn’t make any sense how Kirkland was selected and not Green…
Then again there are some anomalies in the squad. Like how the f does Wes Brown get into the squad let alone the starting 11 when even Manure’s own fans think he’s shite!

Wes Brown was a load a shite that night, Upson had a good game in front of Capello at upton park on sat. Green maybe called up in the next match, and possibly Anton 1 day.
