The plans to build a new stadium at the old parcel-force site may be scrapped if Government Health & Safety Executives deem it unsafe,

The Guardian wrote. Surrey County Cricket Club’s plans to redevelop The Oval with a hotel and new stand that would expand capacity by 5,000 have been left in disarray after the Health & Safety Executive requested a “stop notice” preventing the granting of planning permission. As previously revealed here the HSE was motivated by fears of an explosion at a nearby gas repository which could have endangered spectators. It will now consider whether to ask government to “call in” the development, leading to delays in the construction process that could kill off the project. This has intriguing implications for West Ham United, who are exploring the possibility of developing a 31-acre site in Newham previously used as a Parcel-force depot. The site’s owner, the London Development Agency, last month gave the club until July to come up with outline plans for development after a previous deadline expired. But now the Hammers’ development proposals must consider the impact of a gas repository facility to the west of the site.

It was always too good to be true, how much bad luck can a football club take?
There must be other sites to look at, it dosnt have to be around the West Ham area, we could look south of the Thames

  • I do hope your joking BarrowBoy, where do you propose?

Over the splosh are you kidding, im Claret and Blue through and through, but even i could’nt support that one, Essex has to be the answer, Buckhurst Hill Preferebly i could walk there.

So, let me get this straight, they can’t expand The Oval cricket ground because the HSE put a stop order on it and you have just taken that to mean our new ground will be stopped for the same reason?
Or has there been an announcement to that effect that all the other websites, national and local newspapers have missed?

  • supernumbersix

Surely a wind up BarrowBoy? Who are you? Curbs in disguise? I already feel like my beloved Hammers are gradually being turned into Charlton. That would be the last straw. Sarf of the river?? You must be joking BB.

  • Biffo, maybe the nationals havent caught up with the story yet, the HKS Stadium seating collapse in USA was told by me an hour before SKY, BBC, etc etc..

I think the editor is just speculating at the moment. No doubt the club would have to look into this but we have been openly encouraged by newham council along with the 2012 men who could use the stadium to great effect being so near. I wouldn’t worry too much fellas. No news is good news.

F*ckin hells bells! I got the right hump now, please let it be tosh! pleeeaassee

  • pure speculation and nothing concrete in this

  • Thats right dave it is specualtion, thats why i headlined “looks” but then nearly everything we talk about with West Ham is speculation.

So when do they start to remove the railway lines, the roads and the the adjacent housing if this is the case? How far does the boundaries of safty extend to? Do we envisage a no go area within five miles that no public access is allowed within these gasometers? For Christs sake these things have been with us for generations and if they are going to treat every development on this basis there will be whole swathes of land in embargo. I consider this to be a load of old tosh.

One final comment was the first reply really a Charlton supporter trying to clutch at the chance to bring a decent team south of the Thames?

One things which you dont need to speculate about is the Toss3r we have for a manager, turning the club in to Charlton with his narrow minded game play and lack of anything decent, Please Curbs just resign and do us all a favour, you reckon your WestHam through and through then start playing like West Ham and not bloody Charlton!!

  • Joe j,the plans for the stadium will go ahead,Rome wasnt built in a day,i just wonder why we seem to be the club that when we have a plan someone throws a spanner in the works in newspapers,i dont mind speculation but it is good when there is some basis behind it which i feel this speculation this time isnt

  • ironsmith

It would be helpful to all concerned if the club kept us informed of the situation to quash any of this speculation.

Biffo, yur comment proves you are not a hammers fan, as usual your comments prove to be absolutley usuelss in the face of a fact post by Rooster, Biffo go back to the Spurs websites you pleb.

  • Why dont we just tear down east stand and rebuild it like spurs are doing, we only need another 15,000 seats ffs!
