BG Tells Fans – No Big Signings this Summer!!

Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson is warning fans he will not be spending money on big signings, BG believes West Ham are capable of their new target next season with more or less the players that will be available from Injury.

“Although certainly less eventful than the previous season I have been pleased with our progress and it gives the club a platform from which to progress further,”

said Gudmundsson.

“I share the frustration expressed by Alan about the scale of our injuries but endorse his view that the squad he has assembled should be given a chance to play together while allowing the exciting young talents emerging from our academy to establish themselves in the first-team squad.”

Gudmundsson wants West Ham to emulate the model used by rivals Tottenham, who have succeeded in capturing talented young players like Aaron Lennon, Tom Huddlestone and Michael Dawson for small fees – and watching their values skyrocket.

“When I first purchased West Ham I was keen to emphasise my long-term commitment to building the club,”

said Gudmundsson.

“To this end the club has invested at net £40m in the squad – and I hope that next season we will finally see a settled side with a realistic chance of competing for honours.

The club have appointed Gianluca Nani as technical director to oversee the new transfer policy and the Italian has a history of uncovering hidden gems from his time at Brescia.

Gianluca Nani will endeavor to sign players on Loan and also youth players from mainly Europe and South America.
Are the players we have including injuries enough to reach a European spot next season?

A sensible and rather unexciting approach to the new season, but I don’t believe it for one minute! It looks as if we still have a glimmer of hope for Lanzafame which for me that would be a major coup and a massive first signing “Get out of it BG”.

  • TwinHammer

And yet he has not not signed up/paid the fee for any of the young talent that we had been pursuing, and watched as they have gone elsewhere

  • Nani’s appointment could be the gradual plan of building us into a stronger side. Finding new talent at a reasonable price and gradually edging us into the top six seems very sensible. This would eventually attract a top name here and there, whilst keeping a steady income at the club due to not overspending from this season.

I dont really see us doing any deals until Nani arrives.
We are to understand that BG has a target for each season, so i am confused what season we will start to try and compete for Champions league spots, at this rate it should be about 2023, and maybe then we will have saved enough to build another stadium.

  • GF

Well BG if you ask me your wasting your time at this club and beginning to irritate the fans, you put up with a half rate manager who signs half rate injury prone crap, you spout off about wanting to compete in europe…do me a favour shut your mouth sell the club to someone who is ambitious with a wallet who wants to spend money, you cant do this on the cheap and until you realise that keep your gob shut. If you are serious then fire that two bob bit of a manager and get in someone who knows what he’s doing and open your wallet you’re gona end up in the championship next season then you will suffer financially have to sell your players and you’ll be there for years to come, gone are the West Ham glory days, there’s no season ticket for me next year whilst Curbs is in charge.

  • you have to wonder why BG bought the club in the first place, he is a banker by trade and all they are intrested in is making money. Maybe thats why he showed little interest until he realised how much it was costing, he soon moved to replace his man for overspending however they dressed it up. WE also know how much the banks lost recently, globally, I think the simple thing is that the books don’t balance and BG being an accountant cant live with that. He knows the wages are too high so complain about how we attracted stars with big salaries he sais we have too many players. If we get rid of FL, Neil,Cole, Boa Morte, Mullins, Quashie, Reid,Davenport, Bowyer, Pantsil, Gabbidon I think we would reduce the wage bil by at least 350K per week, allow the purchase of 3-4 yuounger but proven players and meet everyones objective, will it happen, unlikely as most of the higher payed players are likely to find some other mug to pay the wages and most of the fringe players are happy picking up 20-30K a week doing nothing.

  • For gods sake do you want us to end up like Leeds. Yes he is a business man, and so are all the rest who have bought clubs…what do you want him to do – buy every top player he can and skint us, have some patience Simon. Joe I understand like others on here the situation, but I don’t think we will wait that long for glory, but after years of turmoil, i’m positive for the future, but I do understand why we are all weary. Lets think ahead, we will get there. Cmonyuirons.

I am really pleased that so called fans like GF are not renewing their season tickets. More bile from a bigoted supporter talking rubbish. Get a life mate. WHU improved immeasueably last season and will continue to do so.I suppose you want todays hero, Redknapp, back? The same Redknapp that wasted the Rio money on dross and nearly got us relegated.

  • GF

TrevorH you’ll be the mug complaining when we are on the brink of relegation fella, West Ham never improved last season, they were just lucky that Spurs never won week in week out…and as for Redknapp dont be a prat!! Curbishley is a small club manager with a small club mentality, proven by the shite he signed he’s going the way of Redknapp Roeder Macari he’ll NEVER acheive anything as Manager at the club the same way he acheived nothing at Charlton and until you short sighted idiots realise it, Stick a Pie in it!!

In response to GF, I must say that, no you are the mug if you think we achieved nothing last year, even if we had finished 12th it would still be an improvement on scraping away from religation by our fingernails. I for one think BG is taking the sensible approach, We have quality players at the club already and some promising kids coming through (I say kids, most of them are the same age as me) We need to secure the long term future of the club, Look at Villa, O’Neil didn’t do much first season, but built a side and look where they finished, same with Everton, they’ve been building over a number of years. I think we hammers need to be patient and go back to what made us some of the most popular fans in the country and make Upton Park a cauldron of pulsating football. Europe will come, and I for one think Curbishly is the man to take us there. Besides who would you relace him with? MacLaren?

  • chazz

well i think hes right in 1 way but wrong in another we need to sell our crap players like davenport gabbidon e.g and we are on the verge of signing nicky shorey and david lanzafarme so good news
    come on irons

  • TrevorH

GF – At least I will be there to watch it, you won’t. West Ham will probably finish about 8th. The table doesn’t lie – 10th is about right for last season. Me? I can’t wait for next season. Thank you Student Hammer for agreeing with me. West Ham need support and patience. Big mouth losers like GF can go elsewhere.

  • West Ham will make some signings, but there is still enough time to do so when Nani is in charge (when will his spell start? In June, maybe?). I think Nicky Shorey and Lanzafame would be great signings, and there will be some more as soon as some of the mediocre players have been sold. I’m looking forward to building on what West Ham has achieved this season. A “top ten finish” is OK. Of course we can complain about some games, about a lack of “flair” and a lack of a nailbiting finish to this season. But Curbs deserves coaching the Hammers next season!
