Do we really want to lose Him?

I have never been a great admirer of Anton Ferdinand and i dare say a lot of fans feel the same way, and i very rarely listen to silly rumours, but the rumour about Ferdinand going to Spurs sounds like a possibility.

Ok so Anton is not Rio and will never have the skills that Rio has, but he has been the backbone for West Ham on many occasions, so do we really want to lose him? and if so, then why? and for what Price?

    Two pence should be enough…

  • Jono says:

Upson and Ferdinand is our best CB partnership and we have won some big games with these guys together – Man Utd/Liverpool etc. I don’t think we can lose him – Gabbidon has faded badly and Collins is never fit enough to play. Tomkins is too raw and needs another year in reserves/on-loan, while Spector is a good fill-in player but little else. Would only sell for c.10 million.

He made us win against man u at upton park which made me like him so i would say about 6 to 7 million!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • gavin says:

I prefer collins over him but as you say never fit.  I would like to hold on to him as said above he comes good in the big games.  I know he has earned hero status but if you actually watch the fella, the worst player for us is Paintsil.  Funnily enough I like him & cheer him on but he regularly is at fault for goals & is just not a footballer.  Just think if Boa Morte played like that … he’d have been shot.

Gavin i cant agree with you there Pantsil is very underrated, he is a secret weapon that we have if he is given a decent run in the side.  against Man U at home and away he was all over them chasing tracking back, he is a class international mate, and yes he has made a few mistakes but not more then  Lucas Neil ? I dont hear you slagging him off Son, even Anton makes regular mistakes its part and parcel.
Me personally would like him to be our right back and get rid of L.Neil, just hear for the bucks, he didnt go to liverpool because he knew he would get exposed as a weak defender with no pace and over weight, the  Aussies dont even want him as skipper anymore they would much prefere H.Kewell.
And with regards to Anton, West ham are fools if they ever sell him he is going to become a great player, if we can show more intent on pushing on as a team by getting some class in Anton will florish,
he has been there from a youth and has never seen real world class Talent come to upton Park, then he sees his brother lifting the C.League trophy as skipper of  Man U, he just needs to concentrate more. TOP Player. and BIG UP to Johnny Pasntsil my favourite WHU player.

Of course we don’t want to let him go! Anton is a skilful all round footballer, at a similar level to where Rio was at the same age – and in some ways more disciplined. He has been exposed a few times this year by a lack of support and the occasional lapse in concentration, but he is one of our best players – possibly even the best pure footballer – and we’d be mad to let him go. Even for big money. As for Pantsil, you simply cannot judge him until he’s had a run in the team. But he has bags of pace and skill and a great attitude – so why on earth would we want to lose him? Not a footballer? Are you mad Gavin? The ones who have to go are the ones who are finished or who have had their chance and just not contributed eg Boa Morte, Camara, Bowyer, Mullins and the like. Sadly Davenport and Gabbidon (both excellent players) are surplus to requirements, so they should come off the wage bill too.

i don’t like anton but can’t see us getting anyone as good for the same money we’d sell him for. maybe if we put a large price on his head it would knock back anyone but those with more money than sense. i’d suggest a £12M price or more. should be able to get a pretty good replacement for that sort of money at least. as for pantsil, he occasionally shows the odd glimpse of class but i think we’d wait forever for him to turn into the finished article. i’d prefer a real right back. he all too often gives the ball away cheaply. if we are to progress, we need players who can keep the ball, especially at the back.

  • Donald Duck says:

We mustn`t sell him. He is our best defender when he has a settled defence alongside him, given time he will be more consistent and realise all the potential he has. Anton must stay if we`re serious about qualifying for Europe in the future.

  • Spence says:

Did anyone watch Anton this year?Heskey was bullying Upson in the air until half time when AC (presumably) asked Ferdinand to take over. That was the end of Heskey as a threat.Ferdinand is the best athlete we have at the back and is one half of what made our defence so strong early on.It is a shame Tomkins speed is suspect (he was exposed on the flanks, particularly against Villa) because I had hoped he could be a replacement for Neill.

  • logicz says:

We shouldn’t even be discussing the subject…If West Ham want to push on then we shouldn’t be selling our young homegrown talent like we did in the past. Anton needs to concentrate more in order to be a top defender. Him and Upson possessed the best defensive record outside the top 4 up until April. As for Panstil, i love his attitude and determination, he’s quick strong and willing to work for us and that is why i think he should stay. There room for improvement in both players and I’d rather have him at right back than Neill.

  • bigfrank says:

Logicz is right about our defence, Curbs bragged about our defence often to the media which he then obviously cursed it by bragging
