NEWSNOWMLS USA: Columbus Crew fixture Confirmed
Woohoo! another fixture for the Hammers in the States (sarcasm).
Columbus Crew (sounds like some hoodies in Lewisham) are set to welcome West Ham on July 20th (Sunday) at 5pm, I think thats 9pm BST.
Columbus Crew are rated as a very good team in the MLS eastern league and are in 2nd place so far, just below Chicago Fire.
The Stadium hold 20,000+, so there will be plenty of room for the away followers of West Ham United.

I have no problem with the Hammers playing MLS opponents, but why the Columbus Crue? It’s the middle of nowhere. How about playing nearer, say, New York. We have a fine stadium here in NJ that seats 80,000 – even MORE room for the travelling fans (of whom I am guessing are considerably more numerous in the metropolitan NY area than Ohio).
DaDon, i really was only being sarcastic when i said WooHoo, reasons being when it was announced that West Ham were to play the MLS All Stars, a lot of MLS fans were disappointed read this article.

NJHammer, To be honest, i know for a fact there are tons of Hammers fans in the States and mainly in New York, i hope there will be another fixture in NY, because the fans there deserve to see the team they support without having to cost them a fortune.
I know you were being sarcastic mate and so was I. Columbus, OH is only an 8 hour drive for me and the game’s on a Sunday, so I have no problem driving out there for the weekend to see WHU play. I can even take in the rock and roll hall of fame while I’m out that way. Shit – I was happy to take a couple of days off to fly up to Toronto to see them the following Thursday, so this is better for me. I’m guessing $ has something to do with it, but I guarantee there would be more Hammers supporters at Giants Stadium in NJ for a game against the Red Bulls than there will be in OH. Perhaps it’s not about the WHU fans, but the MLS fans. Frankly, I don’t know which team draws better.Can someone tell me if there are any organised trips planned for the WHU fans to come over or if anyone in the NY/NJ area is planning something? I’d like to stay in touch on this…Cheers!
