No more feeding

By Dave Hall

Over the years we have had to endure seeing top players moving on to the so called top four. We never had a chance of holding onto the likes of Ferdinand etc, and over the years our beloved club has been up and down like a fiddlers elbow. Now a spark of light in the form of our new owner BG has given us hope for a bright future, with a sound and careful plan of pushing West Ham to greater heights over the next few years. Yet despite this, out come the rumours from the media about certain players in our squad moving on; one example being Dean Ashton. This rumour has now put many fans on edge, leading them to believe Deano will leave if offered a chance by you know who at the top. This has opened up old wounds in many fans, and it’s understandable considering the players we have had to let go in the past, topped with the heartache of being relegated, then up, then down, etc. But today Deano has come out with something that will offer many hope. He has said, ‘ West Ham is the team I play for. I want to talk to the club, because I’ve enjoyed myself here and thats all I’m really thinking about. ‘ Now unless the owners do something daft and move him on, then I don’t believe he will go. We have to think positive and move forward. We are a great club, with even more to offer and have no reason to keep worrying that every great player we get is going to be fed to one of those other clubs up there enjoying their mountain top view at the moment.

The West Ham Academy is an English soccer institution that has produced many of our country’s best players. Perhaps, to stop the mercenary moves of many young players, the foundation contract that binds them to West Ham should include a clause to the effect that if they join certain listed clubs then WHU will receive ~ 10 million pounds in compensation. Surely this is possible?

The Italians do it all the time Bill.
Ashton owes West Ham more than 1 year of football, and if he goes to a big club like Man Utd hes just going to be a bench warmer.
The Kids at West Ham should be on a sell out clause of some kind, but to be honest, who can deny them a future in top class football.?

  • I think we have the potential to be in top class football, but we have to try and hold to our players for longer,or we’ll never reach the place we can be. Something has to be done

  • If we can build our players like Sears and hold onto the likes of Ashton, topped with keeping our players injury free as possible, and topped with afew new signings and some players who we dont need leaving, we can move forward. By doing this it will attract more quality and entice current players to perhaps stay. I think Nani will be a big factor for us in the summer

Much depends on the player himself and from reports he appears to be very happy with us and will probably stay. However, I already see ‘Ashton welcomes Manchester United interest’ in some articles which is an utter lie of course and should Ferguson instruct his freinds in the Daily Mail, Times etc., the steamroller will be on the move again and we just have to be prepared for it. AC and BG, if they are true to their word, simply have to pass this first test comfortably if they make a bid to send out the right signals for the future!

  • You’ve hit the nail on the head ironsmith, I couldn’t have said it any better. Lets get pass this summer and then it’s time to move forward.
