We must keep the Deano

By Dave Hall

A smashed ankle, long recuperation, slight bulk, and a long road back, sums up Dean Ashtons season.

But this guy is a player we must try and hold on to if we want to push forward, with additional signings coming in this summer.

I’ve heard, like we all have, of the reasons he has not been up to scratch, i.e, wants more wages etc, but the fact is injuries to the ankles are more serious than some might think.

I had an injury to my ankle some years back, and believe me its no laughing matter, and takes time to heal; and i’m not even a pro footballer.

In recent weeks i’ve seen Deano have a good game and a bad game, which is not surprising. A season out of the game with this sort of injury can do this.

Lets not forget what he can do and will do if we can keep him for next season, because some of that style Deano has was evident, not only in the Man Utd game, but here and there in previous games.

If we can keep him, I think we will see more of the threat up front he can be next season.

Ashton is fundamental to a successful West Ham season so long as he is fit. He is a natural goalscorer, leads the line and can play in the slot but he will always score goals. If he is sold it will be a damining comment on both Alan Curbishley and the Board. On Curbishley because he will have failed to find a way to make use of a veryu high quality and rare commodity an England class goalscorer, on the Board as it will demonstrate a lack of ambition. Just remember we paid £7.5 million for Dean under a much less imaginative board chaired by Terry Brown!

I am so pleased with the last few games that deano has been invilved in, the over head kick goal was my goal of the season for West Ham. Stay Deano Stay.

Yeh losing deano would be one of the worst mistakes in west ham’s history. U just see the quality in him even when he isnt doing much. I get inspired by him and try 2 imitate the way he plays when i play soccer. I cherish him 4eva, a rare talent and can be the one who can lead us to the CL with a few extra quality players around him. In his recovery season he has managed 2 get up 2 abt 10 goals and he has missed a few games this season. Real quality who gets the fans excited!!! COYI
