Is it over for Deano
The Daily Mirror today suggests that Fabio Capello will not pick Dean Ashton again for England and that he
will join the ranks of those that have won 1 England cap. They go on to suggest that Michael Owen will also be scrapped.
Personally I think that the English game very much depends on having a ‘target man’ up front who brings others into play, and is a threat in the air, history dictates that we have always played this way, and I don’t see any reason to change it. It’s what makes other international teams wary of us as a team, why should we change, Wayne Rooney cannot fulfill this role and there are few others in the premiership that can.
What are your views, should they persist with Deano or not, for me definitely yes, he shows tremendous mobility for a big man, and has a keen eye for a goal.

Ashton Played like a Donkey, he looked so out of place & uncomfortable he clearly wasnt fit, see how he goes next season and if he’s scoring goals try again. The pitch in T&T was rock hard it looked tricky for everyone it just might not have been his style of team or tactics, after all he’s used to sitting on the bench at upton park & playing under Curbs, thats enough to destroy anyones ability!!

Of course deano will get more opportunities. I havent managed 2 see the game but i have heard tht i dont think he played terrible. He didnt set the world alight but i dont think many, if any of the english players did. Anyway he needs 2 develop himself into the english system as it is hard 2 adjust ur game with 45 mins of action. Capello will want 2 see these types of players in bigger games anyway 2 see how they cope and wat they can do. Games like TnT downgrade ur playing ability due to the low intensity the game becomes. Deano will fire himself 2 an england regular, just u wait!!! COYI AND COME ON DEANO!!!

I thought Ashton played quite well, he held the ball up and brought other players into it with nice lay offs of the ball. In the second half this was non-existent, as soon as the ball was played forward we lost it. Crouch can not trap a ball, and Defoe needs the ball at his feet.England were far better in the first half with Ashton playing.

Can some1 plz tell me wat is wrong with these newspaper journalists?? i have just read an article on another site tht talks the biggest load of crap. It says tht New castle are sounding out a move for unsettled west ham striker Dean Ashton. Arent we currently in contract talks to improve his terms and its amazing how these articles come out always after talks have been occuring. Why would he go 2 newcastle anyway?? We got tenth place and we played with some of our third choice players in some positions. They finished 12th and their team is hopeless!!!

Dean Ashton is by far the best English Striker and any West Ham fan will tell you he is our best player even though he is only 80 per cent fit. Capello is no mug either and right now Deano is unique in his style of play and the boss is fully aware of this. He would be the missing link for Man U or drag the bar codes from obscurity but it ain’t going to happen he will sign for us so let’s enjoy the ride next season!

Deano would have looked less out of place if Defoe had not been so greedy. Several times Deano was clear in space in the middle waiting for the crosses that never came from defoe. He had a shot instead. With maybe Rooney there those crosses would have come in.

anyone who has ever seen Defoe play will tell you he is the greediest player ever to play. i have seen him refuse to pass even when another player was 100% certain to score from a tap in, and playing him with Ashton was never going to work, ashton is big strong skillfull and by far one of if not the best English striker around, he will play for England again dont listen to all this shite especially not from any red top rags like the mirror.

This story loses all credibitility in the first sentence “The Daily Mirror today suggests that Fabio Capello will not pick Dean Ashton again for England”. The Daily Mirror?? Everyone knows that anything they write about West Ham is either hugely exagerrated or absolutely tosh!
