Ashton: £13Million - 5 Year Contract - £50K a Week
Jun 4, 2008 West Ham News
After a dissapointing weekend with the National side, Dean Ashton is expected to confirm his decision to stay with West Ham sometime today.
A deal will be offered to Ashton today with a 5 year contract worth £13M at £50k a week, which will make him one of the highest paid players in the Hammers.
The deal will end speculations that Deano may be going to Newcastle.
I am finding it hard to believe that Deano is worth £50k a week, when Lanzafame is only paid £17k with Bari and soon Palermo.
What ever happened to cutting wages?

I’m one of those that believe Ashton can be a part of the squad that will push us forward…I hope i’m right , and he better live up to his wage packet.

I think this is major news for West Ham, he is clearly a major part of our plans, and his end of season form showed that, a tally of 10goals in 20starts this year with 11 sub appearances that only accumulate to around 3 games. That record is top class and he is still finding his way back to his best form which next season we will see.Deano and Bellamy up front compliment eachother with the finishing and cleverness of Dean to the fiery pace and work rate of Bellars.Maybe we need just another striker for around £5M who can come on as a sub or replace a striker if there on poor form, just someone who can chip in a further 12 or so goals.

I’d be interested to learn the source of all these reputed salaries.Another WHU fansite reported Bellamy’s as the highest salary at ~£40k /wk. Neill was originally rumoured to be on a £50k /wk deal, which he and the club have denied. So if Ashton’s new deal is supposed to be in keeping with the highest earners at WHU, is it £40k or £50k /wk? Or neither? Frankly, I think it would be ridiculous to offer him such a high basic wage, especially for 5 years.
