Deano, Deano, Deano

by Ian Salisbury

I’m not sure what everyone’s opinion of Dean Ashton’s short appearance for England was, personally I thought he tried hard, but looked like a ‘fish out of water’. Up against poor opposition he tried to play the ‘target man role’ and got on the end of a number of through balls, holding it up and bringing others into play. His one major shot he could have perhaps done better with, but generally he tried to make space for himself and around the box. To be fair the crosses that were intended for him weren’t up to the best quality, and I hoped that Capello might give him longer to prove himself. I certainly hope that he is given more chances to play.

I thought Deano had as good a game as they all did, he complimented Defoe in attack better than Defoe did with Rooney, so possibly Ashton would be perfect for Rooney in Attack. There were only 3 great players on that field last night, that was Downing, Barry and Bentley, the most comical were Crouch and James.

he often recieved the ball with his back to the goal so passing in that situation is the best option. i think the long-ball game we played against the USA could have done with him winning the headers rather than beckham and defoe but it was a ball on the floor game against T&T. he will get another chance.

  • I think he’ll improve as the games go along, and bang a few goals in aswell.
