Should Neill still be Captain?

After last season Lucas Neill should reflect on his performances, or lack of, and remember why he was made captain in the first place.

When we were fighting relegation Neill showed why he was given the armband and was also very motivational to other team members. But the question is, what went wrong last season. I know other players had seemed to have already gone on holiday when we reached a safe tenth-and of course there was the injury crisis; but putting that all aside, Neills overall performance was disappointing. And when it come to motivation, it seemed Scotty Parker was the man with all the words, and was also impressive once he got a run of games.

We need Lucas Neill to pull his socks up and show us what he is capable of-otherwise, in my opinion, the job should go to Parker.

I think he should, defenders make good captains, he just needs to curb his JT attitude, and to be honest, i cant think of another player is right for the job yet!

Things went off the boil for Hammers once Eggy left and the financial state of affairs became a major bone of contention,ie:transfers, wages, bonusses and insurance payments and issues.Other factors such as injuries, recovery techniques, and international matches also come into the equation

  • Neills got lots of potential, i really hope he shows it next season

Positionally inept and at times down right stupid with his decision making. He could’ve cost us a few more penalties last season if refs had actually been watching him off the ball.  Off load the money grabbing b@?%$%d.

Parker didn’t play all too many games last season, but the 90% of the ones in which he did he was the best West Ham player on the pitch. He’s certainly got the skill, and he’s had captaincy experience with Newcastle. Neill was unsound positionally throughout the year and gave away mindless fouls and one or two penalties needlessly. If it were up to me, the armband would be Parker’s come August.

Neill did not show leadership ability last season so I reckon it will be best if he is replaced. Parker appears to be injury prone, so in my opinion the captaincy should go to Upson.

Let’s face it – Neill had a shocking season.  He was either out of position or out paced, and his lack of pace doesn’t help us going forward.  There were bright spots in his season, but it seemed he was more intent on being the captain then he was a starting right back.  I back Parker as well, he definitely shows command of the midfield and he’s already already worn the armband. To the guy said Neill has potential…he’s going to be 30, wouldn’t this seem more like an “it can only get worse” situation?

Parker as skipper for me, New right back as a priority for the summer, Good player but prone to so many mistakes in any given game. Gets caught out of position so often and looks like he is treading water when he tries to recover. The few games he played during his 1st season he looked a class act, maybe he has hit a comfort zone ?

Parker for me guys – if he can stay fit.  If we want a defender as captain, possibly Upson … but once again, needs to stay fit

Neill had an indifferent season last term. Not only should he be replaced as captain but he should be shown the door, as his wages are totally out of proportion with his performances. I am surprised that he has not conceded a hatful of penalties last season. My choice for captain would be Upson, Parker or Green in that order of preference. Let Neill take his greed and jet lag elsewhere.

“We need change” as West Ham-fan Barack Obama says. Well. I refer to the Captain were I geuss Parker would do it much better. As would Ljungberg who have managed to seattle the Swedish team well. Ljungberg also seems to have a good and positive influence off the pitch in West Ham.

Scott Parker all the way for me .. I’d be happy with Matty Upson.. But Parker would be my first choice!

No, Matthew Upson should be. After a good half season with West Ham last term I back Neill to be captain. However after an absolutely shocking season, and Upson playing so well before his injury I don’t think Neill should continue. NEILL SHOULDNT ONLY LOSE THE CAPTAINS ARMBAND HE SHOULD BE DROPPED. NEW RIGHT BACK OVER THE SUMMER PLEASE CURBS!!!

  • What i meant to say chris is that he has the ability, I got my words crossed. But as I said in the article, if he doesn’t pull his socks up, then it should be Parker as captain./

    HELL NO!!!
    ARE YOU MAD?!
PARKER, OR UPSON FOR GOD’S SAKE.
