Green; Misquoted or not?
I recently did an article about what a senior source at West Ham had told the BBC, and there was plenty of quoting going on. But although this doesn’t mean this is all necessarily direct quotes, and words can be twisted, I do feel this one had something true about it.
Now on the subject of misquoting, lets turn our attention to the latest saga, this one involving Robert Green. I originally thought the Sun newspaper had got hold of this apparent interview, but it turns out its straight from them;and once I knew this, well what can I say…if it’s from this paper, then my mind is at ease already.
This rag is notorious for misquoting and twisting things to suit their own needs and line their pockets, regardless of what people, think, much like all newpspapers, but these guys are a joke. And on reading what Green had apparently said, in my opinion what he was suppose to have said seems like it’s been twisted and moulded to the way this paper wants it.
I FEEL I’m right about this one, but we still need Green to come forward and clear this up, not just the club itself.

I 100% agree with you Dave, The WHUFC website side that he is still under contract for 4 more years, but Green needs to come out and admit he was misquoted, or at least admit a contract means nothing to him or the fans, money is more important.

I don’t know about that, I can’t remember the last time the club offically talked about players comments to a paper - so I think they must have had words with Green and asked him about his comments and the truth of it prior to releasing their statement.

Dave, whilst I agree with you about the quality of reporting which goes on in that rag, their journalists are so poor they would have found it impossible to create a piece from someone as erudite as Rob Green. The very way it is written shows that most - if not all - quotes came straight from the man’s mouth, even if the ‘Sun’ would have had trouble spelling them!
It sounds to me that RG is not the happiest Hammer at the mo, and, if it’s true that he is lagging well behind on the wage structure, personally, I don’t blame him! This is a player (in these days of ridicoulsly over-inflated wage structures, which will be the bankrupcy of many a club!) who deserves to be on £40,000 + a week, especially as Lucas Neill is reportedly earning close to double that amount.

True Steve, but whether Greens comments were blown out of proportion or not we don’t know. But the way the Suns interview worded what he said just didn’t seem totally genuine. To clear this matter up he must come forward himself, because if there is any truth in the interview, do we really want a keeper who is unhappy. I like Green and he is a great keeper, but we need stability, not key players jumping ship.

If these players are indeed on these wages that the rags report. I’m not saying Green hasn’t said anything, what I’m saying is the way it has been quoted. If Green is not happy with the wages, then he shouldn’t have signed his last contract, that decision was up to him. As I said before, he needs to come forward and admit whether he said this or not. We as fans have the right to know the truth and pay plenty of money to watch our team…the last thing we need is players who are not happy and that is unsettling.

If what the rags say about the wages is true. I’m not saying Green didn’t say anything, what I’m saying is the way it has been worded. If Green is not happy with wages etc, then he should have contemplated this when he signed his last contract not that long ago. We as fans pay plenty of money to watch our team, the last thing we need is players who are not happy…it is unsettling. He needs to own up as to whether what was written was true or not.

If it helps and the Press Association have never been to court for making up stories, then read their press release.
There is many ways you could read the statement, i suppose if i was a journalist for a big rag, i would try to make it sound worse than what it looks.

Who knows if he was misquoted or not? The thing is I don’t think he should be complaining about his wages to a journalist. He agreed a five year deal last year and is probably (rightly) pissed off that other players are getting more than him. The person who he should be complaining to is the person who negotiated the deal for him. Basically it’s tough shit, there’s a clause in the contract to re-negotiate next year and he’ll just have to wait till then. Why put the clause in and then try and re-negotiate before that time?
I can understand how he might be pissed off after finding out how much more some of the others are on but hey, maybe he should be looking at changing agents rather than having a pop at the club in the transfer window.
Just keep playing and struggle by on £25,000 a week till next year, maybe just buy the one sports car rather than one for each day of the week, it’ll be tough but the deal’s been done.
