Newcastle and Sunderland Battle for £7m Ferdinand
Sunderland boss Roy Keane is reportedly interested in Anton Ferdinand. The West Ham United defender
has been linked with a move away from the club for over two months; the Black Cats are set to make a last ditch effort to bring the England Under-21 defender to Wearside.
Sunderland will be expected to pay in the region of around £7 million for Ferdinand, who had been hotly tipped to join Tottenham earlier in the summer.
It does now appear that Sunderland have jumped to the head of the queue, after Spurs apparently opted to sign midfielders as opposed to defensive signings.
Newcastle’s Keegan will also be monitoring Ferdinand’s position very closely, and are expected to make an offer for the player very soon which may outbid the Black Cats.

Why do we want to let Anton go? He isn’t his brother but he is still a decent player. Very good in fact when his mind is right and he is young. We should try and offload Upson. I know that he is our best central defender but being our best isn’t much good to us if he is injured a lot.

What a ridiculous suggestion that we should sell Upson he didn’t miss a minute until Easter last season, was one of our best performers and is by far our best central defender and for me should be club captain. I do agree we should keep Anton when his mind is right he is a very good young English player. I don’t expect Curb’s to sell Anton he has played every match in pre season. More likely that Davenport or Gabbidon would be moved on with Collins fit and Tomkins coming through.
