Newcastle Deal: Duff for Ferdinand plus Cash

Keegan has his eyes on Anton Ferdinand according to Geordie Websites and may be trying to come to some sort of deal to exchange Damien Duff for Anton Ferdinand + a fee for the Hammers defender.

West Ham are said to be asking for as much as £10m for Anton, a price that was much too high for Tottenham to consider, but Newcastle have come up with a solution that may be of interest to both clubs depending what fee West Ham are asking included in the deal.

Keegan is keen to build a central defensive partnership based on English under 21 players and Anton would be ideal to partner Steven Taylor.

Newcastle fans on the NUFC blog sites seem to be 50/50 about such a deal saying Anton would be great for the Magpies regarding his youth and style, but some would rather Duff stayed and was given a chance to prove his worth, as we did with Dean Ashton.

Personally i would want to give Ferdinand the same chance and with a full fit squad this season he may prove to be worth more than £10m as his brother was.

Hahaha thats rubbish Newcastle fans are 50/50 ha. You can keep Anton Ferdinand, even though us Geordies wouldnt mind seeing the back of Duff who has failed so far for us, we dont want Anton in exchange and if anything it should be you give us money and Anton for Duff. The guy is deluded he thinks he is his brother but has thus far proved that he is disloyal, and mentally weak. He started (appart from his wonderful debut haha) so well and money got to him. Keep him we can do better.

Can’t see it happening, Duff is on his way to SAFC in the next few weeks.

@ Ross G: the person who is deluded is you!! i would welcome a deal made between Ferdinand and Duff even if we did have to part with money, Duff last season was at his worst when he played, im actualy surprised if at all true that West Ham will be interested in another CROCK from us.
and the writer was right, i checked his NUFC link and most Magpies are for the idea, depending on what the fee is, you Ross G are just a trouble maker we at Newcastle can do without.

Duff and Smith for Ashton, never going to happen, Ashton just signed a new 5 year deal with us, Best thing to do with Smith is offer him on a freebie back to Leeds.
The Duff Fedinand deal + Cash sounds good, about £5m should secure Ferdinand with Newcastle

I Dont know if Ferdinand is worth £10m maybe closer to £6-£7m but Duff is probably on £60k a week, and rarely puts in a good performance when he actually plays so let him go and that should easily cover Ferdinands wages.

Ferdinand is a good player and i would rather keep him that do a deal for an injurie prone player and as for ROSS G your a mug your club could really do with a decent defender and anton is a decent player (check his stats) or do you not want the deal purely because he’s from west ham?

Actually ferdinand is one of the lower wage earners at west ham, i’m guessing because i can’t remember, but i think it’s in the low 30s grand a week. i personally would be glad to see him go even after probably his best season to date, his partnership with upson left us with the best defence outside the top 4, well apart from 3 games (ahem) but apart from those thrashings i think everyone saw what he was capable of. his attitude is another story entirely, the court case over his alleged assault on someone outside a nightclub could have seen him in prison. he also made himself unpopular with curbishly after going to party in america after telling curbs he’d have to miss training as his nan was ill. he’s the last of our bentley boys but keegan might be able to get him onside, he could be as special as his brother if keegan can motivate out of him that over arrogance, wouldn’t surprise me if he did. it won’t happen at west ham though as curbs likes his discipline, but horses for courses, who knows.
don’t want duff though, although i’ve heard he makes good beer.

Ferdinand had an excellent first season back in the top flight, but last year I don’t think he was so good.WHU fans you might like to confirm this.Taking Duff from us is the bigger gamble, because he’s been a major disappointment and is another injury prone player that the Hammers could probably do without!!.

Anton had a very good year apart from injurie the games he did play in he was very good including a goal against the mancs but he did miss alot of the season!!!

    For the WHU fans:
Is there a point at which players who’ve failed at Newcastle (with the honourable exception of Nobby) being shipped off to Upton Park becomes an annoyance?

    Serious question …

Another injury-prone reject from the Geordie treatment room. Just what we need!

If we sell Anton, we’ll need to buy another Centre Back. We had Lucas Neill playing there for the last 6 games alongside Tomkins (who cost us a goal a game).

Davenport is rubbish, Curbs doesn’t like Gabbidon because he thinks he’s lazy, so if Upson is injured and Anton sold, we’ll be F*cked again.

“Blyth magpie”, who designated you as the official NUFC mouthpiece ?
You are entitled to no more than an opinion as is Ross G.
Persnally I disagree with both of you, “just an opinion”.
Think Duff could return to old form following rehabilitation and rest, he is only 27 and good players dont turn into bad overnight.
I also think he could link with N`Zogbia on the left to form a pretty potential combo,as each ca play either inside or wing.
Anton is not exactly whats needed at Utd., not knocking him but there are better alternatives available, “an opinion.”
