One from the Freezer
Jul 5, 2008 West Ham News
West Ham have announced they have signed 17 year old icelandic defender Holmer Orn Eyjolfsson.
Eyjolfsson, who is from HK Kopavogur had impressed the club in his trials back in February, and is looking forward to his stay at the hammers; even though he admits it is abit scarey moving to another club in another land.
To me this is a good sign, and shows that we are keeping our eye out for young talent at home aswell as abroad. And with young players like Freddie Sears and Eyjolfsson at our club, I like the look of the future.
Imagine in the coming years as these guys progress along with experienced squad members who are here and who will join…I like the way things are going.

It sounds good if you keep all your young talent, but not sure with the history of the club of selling off its best players. It would be nice to sign a few veterans players who could help the club this season and get them going up the tables. Injuries will always happen, you need quality depth.

I agree Sactown Hammer, we will have injuries, and yes we do need veterans. But we also need young blood so that we have a good healthy balance of youth and experience. If we can push forward next season, then hopefully we can banish all our weariness and negativity. It’s up to the players, the club, and most of all, us fans to make this possible.

I agree Dave you need balance, my only concern is the history of the club selling very good young talent. I can understand when your relagated you need to dump wages, but I’m not sure how the new ownership will go about business.

I think the days of selling young players are over. The owner knows this, because if we went down that road again it would show a backward step in progress, which he does not want. Even Gianluca Nani is impressed with our academy and has said he will be a part of the progress of our academy. This fella will also be influencial in also bringing in new talent both young and more experienced in the future.
