New Stadium still a possibility for West Ham

Lord Mayor of London Boris Johnson is understandably concerned that after the 2012 Olympics that it would be uneconomical to still use the Olympic stadium for athletics, and renting the £700m to Leyton Orient would hardly be worthwhile.

Boris is keen that it should go to a Premier League club, and is hoping West Ham who are the only candidates for serious tenancy will come forward and start talks.

In the Guardian Boris has said that he thinks that the usages after the games for athletics may not transpire.

I am sure many fans would rather stay at the Boleyn Ground than move to a stadium with a running track, and I would definitely hope that BG considers expanding Upton Park as Newcastle did, there must be a way of redeveloping the east stand to add 15,000 more seats.

WE MUST MOVE TO A BIGGER STADIUM IF WE ARE TO PROGRESS. SHOW SOME AMBITION!! BUT NOT WITH A RUNNING TRACK!

  • Well although it will upset a lot of fans ,I am all for the move.A new stadium even with a capacity of 60,00 will produce considerable extra income, plus other benefits such as merchandise if a superstore is includedWith the Olympics the infrastructure will be in place for thousands of extra fans to be able to access with hi-speed trainsFuthermore whilst the boleyn is our home for a hell of a long while its not our original ground so fans cant use -losining our roots crapThe purists will hate it but ITS BIG BUSINESS and if we dont move with the big boys we will be forever lost

i don’t mind either way, but if there’s a running track it would ruin everything. we need a bigger stadium and we can fill a bigger stadium – why not redevelop the Boleyn? re-build the east stand to be ‘wrap-around’ with the bobby moore and centenery an we’d have a great stadium with a great atmosphere.in saying that, i think the attitude has shifted this season. there were a couple of hundred or so empty seats for the wigan game. i think this is a direct response to the team’s style last season and the players that nobody wants there. shame really. would we fill a 55′000 stadium if we keep Curbishley’s style of west ham? probably not.
