Potential £40m Loss and more if we sell!
It is reported that Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson is looking in the region of £230-£250m for West Ham in the coming months, a slightly exaggerated price considering the club initially cost him somewhere in the region of £100m inc Eggy’s shares.
So what would happen if we sold Craig Bellamy and Mathew Upson? disaster thats what would happen, BG has to take into consideration that the sale of these 2 players could mean relegation problems which could result in losing around £40m in TV rights as a premiership club, and also the clubs for sale banner would drop to a bargain basement price of around £60m, partly because the few good players we do have will jump ship as they have done in the past.
Bellamy is considered to be worth around £7m and Upson i would guess around the same price, so even if it is true and we are a financially struggling club it would be suicide to sell these players, it is these players that are just keeping our heads above water at the moment.
BG, Nani and Duxbury have to keep these players at all costs, we still need 23+ points to believe we are safe from relegation, lets not make the mistake that Portsmouth are making by selling Diarra and what Wigan will be making if they sell Heskey.
Its better to be safe then sorry.

I question your valuations of Upson and Bellamy.
You say Bellamy is worth around £7m – I say at least £12m.
We bought him for £7.5m and a lot of people had written him off then. Now he’s fit and playing there are a lot of clubs queuing up for his proven PL quality. Spurs wanted Carlton Cole last season and offered £10m on deadline day.
Same for Upson. How can he only be worth around £7m when Spurs paid £8m for Woodgate? Upson is a regular England squad member. He’s also Capello’s 1st choice if Rio or Terry are injured. We sold Rio for £18m and Chelsea wouldn’t sell Terry for twice that.
Upson probably wouldn’t want to go unless a top 4 club came in for him (Chelsea being most likely since the pairing on Terry and him in the England team seem to work quite well). I think he would resist at all costs a sell to the likes of Spurs since he probably would find it hard to move on later.
Mr Moon, i agree with you that both players are worth more than £7m, but Frank did say it from various sources
i’d rate bellers even higher when you consider how much spurs paid for bent and pay-me-loads-achenko. so must be over £15m.
I agree, Bellamy and Upson are vital to us staying up this season. 23 points is perhaps a little low, look where 2 wins has got us, what’s to say the same cannot be said for other teams. I think this will be another one of those last day drama seasons which us Hammers fans have become all too used to. Why would the players in question want to leave though..we have a strong team of coaching staff now, if we can solidify our position in the top half I think we can look forward to exciting times. We have great youngstrers coming through with Collison and Sears, and a strong nucleus of British players with Ashton and Dyer to come back. Congratulations to the board for alledgedly rejecting a combined bid of £15 million for Bellamy and Parker, lets hope they can reject £20 million too! Yes we would rather be safe rather THAN sorry, not safe rather then sorry.
