With the human ladder looking doubtful for the up and coming internationals, it seems quite likely that our Carlton is likely to figure prominently for the national side.
I know that he’s improved immeasurably under Zola but let’s face it, prolific onion bag bulger he ain’t never gonna be.
Is he in the squad because of his own abilities, i.e. as the new Heskey / the hold up man for Rooney or whatever, or is it more a reflection of the obvious crisis we have at international level when it comes to filling the front men places? (rhetorical)

I agree Pual Butler, and to be honest I am one of those who thought Cole wouldn’t be prolific, so just maybe I’m eating humble pie now.I think Zola may have brought something out of Cole, just like he has with the whole squad, even with injuries to the team. Zola and Clarke have give us hammers something back we were missing for so long, and that’s not just exciting football(even if we have the odd bad game like most teams) but also a sense of belief in the squad.

I think Cole has all the potential to be one of the best front men, as with most people I don’t think he will ever be the golden boot winner but if Zola can do with Cole the improvemnet we have seen overnight in terms of overall play, just think what he can do in terms of his finishing over the next couple of seasons. Coles rise has been meteoric under Zola and it wasn’t that long ago everyone was questioning the wisdom of giving the boy another contract instead of shipping him out for around £4m which most people would have been happy to get for him (me included, yes humble pie time)but to go on the way he has and to break into the England squad is no mean feat even with injuries. can only be good for the boy and west Ham (injuries excluded)
Just don’t understand Parkers ommission? Capello always picks on form and if thats the case he had to be at least in the squad.
Fat boy has gone off the boil as has Barry so Parker and Gerrard in the middle for me.
