It was inevitable, Well done Fulham, Hats off to Spurs

Love it or leave it, this is West Ham, we could easily support a team that will always finish in the top four but no, we support and love  a club that will always finish mid-table or in some cases relegated.

Zola will be happy with 9th place  under the circumstances in which he has had to manage the club, Steve Clarke as an assistant manager is and hopefully will be Zola’s right-hand man for a while to come.

My only sorrow this season is knowing that Tottenham will finish above us, but hats off to the club for climbing from 18th to 8th place in a matter of 7 to 8 weeks, which proves Harry Redknapp next season will probably take Tottenham amongst the top six and hopefully Zola and Steve Clarke will do the same for us.

Well done Fulham and Zamora in having such a great season.

Next Sunday will see West Ham at home to Middlesbrough, Middlesbrough are facing a relegation battle and will need to beat West Ham at least by five clear goals. I would hate to see Middlesbrough go down but that is inevitable.

It has been a season full of ups and downs for West Ham but then it would not be West Ham if this was never to happen, roll on season 2009/2010 to see what spoils that will bring, or will it be another headache with injured players or the FA trying to stuff us up the Khyber Pass again.

Green Street Hooligans 2: Stand Your Ground - Trailer - Chelsea, Millwall.

Following the deadly climax of “Green Street Hooligans,” several members of the West Ham firm and numerous members of Millwall end up in jail. The GSE quickly discover the brutality of life on the inside, as they are constant targets of the superior numbers and better-financed Millwall crew. Football on the inside and out is followed fervently by the prisoners and wins and losses by both are quickly followed by punishment or reward. This could mean a beating or an extra shower or a day of visitation, which inspires extreme behavior. When overcrowding compels a need for the early release of a fortunate few, fate brings West Ham and Millwall together again this time on a Pitch. The stakes are the highest they have ever been for all concerned with death or freedom quite literally a goal away. Game on.

Collins dream of FA Cup Glory

I have to admit Collins is one of my favourite players at West Ham and it was a shame he was benched at the Fa Cup final against Liverpool 3 years ago, he could have made all the difference to the end result.

Now Collins is relishing the thought of another final at Wembley that he will take part in he said to the media about the last Hammers final and how he sees the next :

“It was a fantastic time in my career and that will stay with me for a long time – the celebrations after the semi-final,”

said Collins.

“Not being in the final was hard to take. Some of the other boys here haven’t been to a final before, it’s an amazing occasion and hopefully we can do it this year.

“I think I’m the only one in the squad that played in that semi-final, players have come and gone but I’m delighted to still be involved now.”

West Ham United have a great squad now and are proving to be a force to be reckoned with, lets just hope Collins dream does come true for all of us Hammers fans.

West Ham United vs Middlesbrough FA Cup 5th Round Live

The Hammers will entertain Middlesbrough at Upton Park in the FA Cup Fifth Round challenge in this all Premiership cup tie.

Revived West Ham are enjoying a great spell under Zola despite last weekends result and we currently sit perched eighth, just 11 points from fifth place Arsenal and potential European tournament qualification for next season.

Middlesbrough however really need to get their game going if they want to survive the Premiership this season. Quagmired at the very bottom of the table with just 22 points which they share with West Brom Albion, but with a superior goal difference, Middlesbrough are two points from safety, where currently Stoke City is at 17th place.

Boro fans need not be forlorn, as there is a long way to go until May but a few decent results would come in quite handy.

West Ham will give late fitness tests for Valon Behrami and James Tomkins who are both suffering hamstring injuries which also kept them away from midweek international matches. Czech midfielder Radoslav Kovac could make his debut and Kieron Dyer has been having tests on a muscle injury.

Middlesbrough have selection complications of their own, as they will be without Marlon King. Marvin Emnes or Tuncay are most likely going to replace him at Upton Park. Good news for Boro is that David Wheater is set to return for Chris Riggott who is out with medial ligament injury in a shuffled, makeshift defence which the Hammers will no doubt set to exploit. .

Before the match, West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola has told the Hammers website:

“My job here is not finished and I always focus on the short term. I want to improve this team and to give something more. I have not given enough. I do not like planning long-term, and always like to stick to the present. I do not know what the future holds. If you asked me seven months ago if I would be a manager I would have said no.”

Meanwhile, Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate was quoted saying by the BBC:

“In recent years the cup games have helped build a platform to improve form in the league and start climbing the table. You want to win something as a player and as a club. If we get past this one, we are only a couple of games away from a trip to Wembley and that always gives a lift to a club”.

Arsenal v West Ham United Highlights

First Half Highlights

Second Half Highlights

West Ham assistant manager Steve Clarke believes it is a ‘good time’ to be at Upton Park.

A goalless draw at Arsenal on Saturday ensured the Hammers are now six games unbeaten in the Premier League, much to the delight of Clarke.

West Ham were forced to defend for the duration at Emirates Stadium and Clarke, who moved to the club following the arrival of manager Gianfranco Zola in September, was delighted with his players’ attitude.

“We are pleased to get a point. It is a very difficult place to come,” Clarke told Sky Sports.

“We are on a good run and it was important to keep it going. We defended very well and worked as a team.

Negative

“Maybe the only negative was that we didn’t pass the ball as well as we have been doing recently.

“The work ethic in the team is fantastic. They know what they are doing and what they are trying to do.

“We know what we are trying to achieve and all the players are on board. It is a good time for the club.”

Meanwhile, Clarke is pleased West Ham have captured Radoslav Kovac on loan and expects the Spartak Moscow player to add vital qualities.

“He brings a bit of experience and a bit more depth,” added Clarke.

“He can help us to develop the players. He can play in midfield or at the back so he is a good addition.”

Arsenal v West Ham United Live

Arsenal take on a much-improved West Ham in their next Premier League match conscious that they got out of jail in their last one with barely minutes to spare.

The Gunners were trailing 1-0 to Everton from a Tim Cahill goal during their mid-week game, but a stunning injury-time goal from Dutch forward Robin Van Persie spared them the blushes and gave them a point.

With Aston Villa performing brilliantly, Arsenal now have to deal with a five-point gap as they attempt to seal a Champions League place for the next season.

West Ham have progressed steadily in the New Year. The Hammers proved that recent results were no flash in the pan by beating Hull 2-0 in their mid-week game. David Di Michele and Carlton Cole scored the
winning goals. The win took them to the 8th position with 32 points from 23 games.

Tottenham should learn from West Ham

It would be very easy to retaliate against the latest news that Spurs fans are taking the piss out of West Ham United due to our past selling of some great football stars, according to the Daily Mail in this article, but i find it better to help them through what is a dismal season for them.

The West Ham ban on selling players to Spurs is fantastic news, we are all happy Hammers. The ban and our ethical & educated way of bringing class players to our club is proving so far to be very successful under Gianluca Nani, Zola, Duxbury and Clarke and makes excellent business sense.

So Tottenham stop gloating on our past and learn from our present, you may actually learn a thing or two, my advice is make to drastic changes in the way you bring players to your club and get Martin Jol back ASAP.
