West Ham United V’s Everton (A Hole in Midfield)

Not quite the results West Ham deserved in their last 5 games considering how well the Hammers played, but unfortunately mistakes are made and points are lost, but the Hammers could turn it around by learning from mistakes and continue playing attacking football the Zola way, The return of Parker will be great news for the Hammers.

Everton is not part of West Ham’s difficult run of games. Everton are a good team though, Cahill and Arteta are doubtful for the West Ham game due to injury together with Fellaini will leave Everton’s midfield wide open, so West Ham definitely have a chance to keep it interesting. Everton will be playing with confidence after 2 x 1-0 wins. this match go either way.

Gartside has just made a laughing stock of Bolton

Phil Gartside is without doubt a very sad little character for claiming his teams defeat to West Ham in the 2006/07 season cost his club £700,000 in the end of league standing.

West Ham United will of course dispute this case and hopefully make the Bolton chairman look like the idiot that he is.

Phil Gartsides said:

“There is an argument to say we can claim three points from West Ham,”

“We went down there and lost 3-1, Tevez scored two and it cost us £700,000 because that was one place in the league.

“If Sheffield United are successful and get a claim then why shouldn’t we?”

Bolton finished 7th in the league that season with a total of 56 points and that is 2 points behind Everton, now lets take Tevez out of the picture, the score stands at 1-1!! which gives Bolton 1 extra point, still finishing in 7th place.

What grounds does this Idiot have for claiming 3 points.

I guess Bolton must need the publicity, it is just a shame they never get it from the games they play.

Sunday’s match against Bolton will prove the kind of silly damage he has caused his club with such a pathetic claim.

Andrew Johnson Bagged for £10.5M

Everton accept a bid of £10.5m for Andrew Johnson and Fulham have beaten West Ham to sign him.

West Ham were rumoured to be in the chase to sign AJ with Fulham, Wigan and Sunderland.

Andy Johnson was not included in last nights game against Preston North End and was not included in either the starting line-up or among the substitutes, which fuelled rumours he was on his way somewhere.

Its not bad news for West Ham as the club are trying to secure players that are not after high wage demands, and as a Hammers supporter i have to admit, i am glad we missed out on this signing, if the rumours were true.

Not for Sale and Not Bothered!

Everton boss David Moyes has issued a “hands off” warning for clubs who want to lure Andrew Johnson out of Goodison Park.

The future of England international, Andy Johnson, is hanging in the balance as the latest reports suggest that Everton manager does not want to sell him at ANY price. He has four years left on his contract at the Merseyside, although his last season at the club was plagued by injuries.

Some of the English clubs who liked to have the services of the 27-year old include West Ham, Wigan Athletic and Middlesbrough. Wigan boss Steve Bruce had managed him at Birmingham. Sunderland boss Roy Keane was also regarded as a keen admirer of the striker.

Although a lot of speculation still remain on the future of Johnson, David Moyes is not at all happy with the rumours. He openly declared in the club’s official website that he does not want Johnson to go and the club will not sell him.

A few weeks ago, Moyes mentioned that he is looking forward to rebuild the squad and ’some of the top players’ would be sold to finance the amount. This statement had invited interest from the clubs in England, wanting to sign Andy Johnson.

“Andy Johnson is not for sale - it is that simple,”

Moyes told the club’s official website

Everton will have to look for other ways to find some cash in order to build the squad for the next season. Although they have got some money from UEFA for qualifying for the last 16

Green Light Means Go Curbs Go!!!

Curbs has been given the green light to try and persuade Andy Johnson to play for West Ham next season.

Reports say that David Moyes has given permission for the striker to leave if he wishes but saying that, it is beleived AJ wants to stay at Goodison Park.

Johnson is one of a very rare breed of players that stays loyal to his club and players like him are a great asset to any club, and at around £8.5m its a bargain so

World Club Rankings - Top 25 Clubs Final Week

As the season draws to an end, we are getting close to the (temporary) end of the weekly version of the WCR Top 25 Clubs in the World rankings. As England and Portugal drew to a close this weekend, and Germany, France, Italy and Spain all finish up in a flurry of action next weekend, there won’t be enough movement in the rankings to justify running the stats every week. I anticipate publishing weekly rankings through the end of the Champions League, with additional rankings after the completion of the Copa Libertadores semifinals (early June) and championship (early July). Then, perhaps, a pre-season ranking to take place in early August before the rankings return to being a weekly fixture in September. During the break, I will continue publishing Annual Rankings from 1969 to 2006 (probably at a rate of a few a week). I may be experimenting with other features. If there’s anything else you’d like to see, let me know. I’m always looking for new ideas.

Now, to the rankings. Congratulations to Manchester United for winning another Premier League title. Man Utd remains at the top of the rankings and deservedly so. Other teams that were hoping to wrap things up this weekend weren’t as fortunate as Inter Milan stumbled in its match against Siena to have its Serie A lead cut to one and Bordeaux kept pace with Lyon to stay within striking distance with one fixture to go. Should make for an exciting weekend next weekend.

Most of the changes in the rankings this week take place because of things going on in South America. The quarterfinals are now set in the Copa Libertadores and it seems that some clubs did well in that tournament and some clubs did well domestically, but very few (save, perhaps LDU Quito) managed to do well in both. This resulted in teams moving around the rankings and a few teams being completely knocked out. This makes room for additional European teams who have been playing well recently such as Atletico de Madrid and Werder Bremen.

The most exciting matches of the upcoming week will likely be this weekend as championships will be determined in Serie A and La Championnat and European spots and relegations will be determined. Besides this, there are two matchups between Top 25 teams this week. The first takes place Wednesday as Sao Paulo hosts Fluminense in the first leg of a Copa Libertadores quarterfinal. The other takes place on Sunday as Porto and Sporting CP face off in the finals of the Portuguese Cup competition.

Now on to the rankings.

WCR Top 25 Clubs in the World – May 12, 2008

1. Manchester United (Eng) (1) – I’m guessing you already know this by now, but Man Utd defeated Wigan Athletic 2-0 to win yet another Premier League title. The best team in the world now has only one test to go, but that test is more than a week away, so we’ll discuss that another time.

2. Chelsea (Eng) (2) – Only managed a draw with Bolton this weekend, giving up a late goal. As it turned out, Manyoo was doing its job, so Chelsea’s result didn’t matter in the big picture. Still, it would have been for the ol’ confidence to have a victory going into its match against Manyoo in the Champions League final. But, again, another story for another blog entry.

West Ham lose out on EUFA Cup spot by 0.16 Pts, Man City, Everton, Aston Villa

By Joe (Rooster)

West Ham lose a spot in next seasons EUFA cup because of 0.16 of a point on the Fair Play Table.

An additional English club will qualify for next season’s UEFA Cup after England topped Europe’s fair play rankings, UEFA said on Friday.

The FA has confirmed the berth will be awarded to the highest-ranked side in the Premier League fair play table that has not qualified for Europe by other means.

Manchester City currently stand fifth in the fair play table, behind Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool - who are all already guaranteed a place in continental competition.

That means Sven-Goran Eriksson’s team, with only a single league game remaining, stand on the brink of an unexpected European spot.

In the 162 European matches featuring English clubs that were watched by UEFA delegates between May 1 last year and April 30, 2008, Premier League sides achieved a Fair Play coefficient of 8.143.

The statistic is determined based on criteria such as positive play, respect of the opponent, respect of the referee, behaviour of the crowd and of the team officials, plus cautions and dismissals.

The seven other associations who achieved a coefficient above eight - Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Spain and France - will be entered into a draw for a further spot which will take place at the City of Manchester Stadium on May 13.

The news that City could be playing in European competition next season leaves Eriksson in an even stronger position amid constant speculation that he is to be forced out of Eastlands this summer.

The Manchester club face a final match at Middlesbrough on Sunday and with the game effectively meaningless for both sides, they appear well placed to maintain or

World Club Rankings W/E 5th May 2008

World Club Rankings Week Ending 5th May 2008

By WorldClubRankings.com

A lot to go through this week, let’s see if I can cover at least a portion of it. First of all, bonus points have been eliminated for teams that have been eliminated from their continental competitions. The big losers in the Top 25 this week are Barcelona, Liverpool and Deportivo Saprissa. The big winners turn out to be everybody else who move up to fill in spots that those teams left behind. There will be another shakeup next week with respect to South American teams as the Round of Sixteen concludes on Thursday. Currently, the eight group winners in the Copa Libertadores have received bonus points. Next week, those points will belong to the eight teams that advance to the quarterfinals. In the annual rankings, which is done at the end of the year, bonus points will be awarded to all teams that reached the semifinals in their respective continental competitions, but since the weekly rankings merely are a snapshot at the football world at the moment, it seems appropriate only to award them for those teams still alive in the weekly rankings. (The weekly rankings are a work in progress and comments that don’t hurt my feelings are always appreciated.)

The rankings also go a little crazy this week with respect to Italian teams because they went a little crazy themselves. Fiorentina went from the catbird’s seat to the corner seat with the dunce’s cap after falling to Cagliari and allowing AC Milan into the final Champions League spot. Inter actually moved up in the rankings, despite the loss, because of the fall of Barcelona and Liverpool, but AC Milan moved up a lot, returning to the Top 25 in a big way. Contrarily, Fiorentina , after falling (sort of) to Rangers in the UEFA Cup and Cagliari in Serie A, fall from the rankings completely.

As always, there are lots of great games this week. There are no real matchups of titans this weekend, but with so many teams fighting for European spots or trying to avoid relegation, there are hardly any meaningless games this week. In addition, the much anticipated (at least by me) Brasileiro League begins this weekend. The only two matchups between Top 25 teams both take place at midweek this week. Real Madrid hosts Barcelona on Wednesday in a game that will not have a great deal of importance with respect to where the teams place in La Liga, but has a lot of importance to lovers of great football. On Thursday, River Plate hosts San Lorenzo in the second leg of their Copa Libertadores Round of 16 matchup, with River Plate having to overcome a 2-1 deficit that it earned in its away match.

I want to give some props to some newly crowned champions. Bayern Munchen clinched the Bundesliga title and Real Madrid rode two late goals in rapid succession to claim a second consecutive (and 31st overall) La Liga Primera Division title. Most of all, I’d like to congratulate Pachuca for winning the CONCACAF Champions Cup and being the first team to punch its ticket for the FIFA Club World Cup. I wish there was a place for them in the rankings, but they didn’t even qualify for the playoffs in the Mexican Primera Division and that’s enough to keep them out.

Finally, last week, this site saw by far the most traffic it has ever seen due to being posted on several forums and fan sites. This is, in large part, due to the fact that it was picked up by Cmonyuirons.com last week and it’s greatly appreciated on our parts. Hopefully, they’ll make our rankings a new tradition at their site.

Saprissa’s out. Fiorentina’s out. Who’s in? That’s what the rest of the article is about.

1. Manchester United (Eng) (1) – Unsurprisingly, Manyoo advanced to the first-ever all-England Champions League final by defeating Barcelona 1-0. Even more unsurprisingly, Manyoo moved closer to a second consecutive Premiership title by defeating West Ham 4-1 at Old Trafford this weekend. Coming up, Manchester United has an opportunity to clinch the title against Wigan Athletic, if Newcastle United doesn’t clinch it for them first by picking up a point or three against Chelsea today. Update Chelsea Won 2-0 against Newcastle
2. Chelsea (Eng) (2) – It must be tough being the second best club in the world, only to play in the league with the best club in the world. Defeated Liverpool 3-2 to advance to the Champions League finals against Manyoo. Obviously, they have a fair shot in that game. Furthermore, all hope is not yet lost with respect to the Premiership title. First of all, Chelsea needs a victory at St. James’ Park later today. Update Chelsea Won 2-0 against Newcastle. They also need a victory against Bolton this coming weekend. They also need some luck and a Wigan Athletic miracle. (Speaking of which, that 1-1 draw at home against Wigan a few weeks ago may keep giving Chelsea supporters nightmares throughout the summer.)
3. Internazionale (Ita) (6) – Obviously, they move up because of the falling of those teams defeated in the Champions League this week and not by virtue of their 1-2 defeat at the hands of their cross-town rivals. Along with Roma’s victory, Serie A is once again beginning to look competitive, but the road for Inter should get easier as we go on. This week, Inter travels to Rome to play the second-leg of their Coppa Italia semifinal with Lazio, after a goalless draw in the first leg. In Serie A action, Inter hosts Siena as it tries to close the door on another title.
4. Sao Paulo (Bra) (4) – Managed a draw on the road against Nacional (Uru) in the first leg of their Copa Libertadores Round of Sixteen matchup. Second leg is this week in Brazil. This weekend, Sao Paulo begins its defense of its Brasileiro League title at home against Gremio.

World Club Rankings Top 25 – Week Ending April 28, 2008

1. Manchester United (Eng) (1) – Played road games against the numbers two and three teams in the world last week and couldn’t come away with a victory. Did manage a road draw against Barcelona, which is always a good Champions League result, but did not score a goal, which could come back to haunt them. Fell 1-2 to Chelsea to fall even, but they still hold the advantage in the Premiership, so they still hold the advantage here. In addition to the Barcelona rematch this week, host West Ham United on Saturday to maintain their domestic league.

2. Chelsea (Eng) (2) – Like Manyoo, Chelsea scored a road draw in the Champions League, which is always nice. Unlike Manyoo, Chelsea scored an away goal, which is even nicer. Also unlike Manyoo, Chelsea won the Chelsea/Manchester United game, which is the nicest of all. Play the rematch against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, though I hope they aren’t going to wait for another own goal to score this time. As they chase down Manyoo in the Premiership, they travel to play my beloved Newcastle United.
3. Barcelona (Esp) (3) – Just doesn’t seem fair to rank them this high the way they’ve been playing in the Primera Division. Rested a lot of their best players this weekend in losing to Deportivo La Coruna 0-2. It would seem that they are willing to surrender second place in La Liga to Villarreal for a chance to defeat Manchester United in the Champions League. We’ll see if the sacrifice works out on Tuesday. This weekend they host Valencia, which could be a good game if both teams bother to try this week.
4. Sao Paulo (Bra) (11) – Defeated Colombia’s Atletico Nacional 1-0 to win their group and gain home field advantage in the first round of the Copa Libertadores knockout rounds. Plays on the road on Wednesday in Uruguay against Nacional, which is a really tough draw for my pre-knockout stage favorite to win it all.
5. Liverpool (Eng) (4) – A 94th minute own goal is all that kept Liverpool from heading to London with a lead in its Champions League draw with Chelsea. That’s gotta hurt. Could manage only a draw with Birmingham City this weekend, but the domestic matches are second stage at this point. Face Chelsea on Wednesday and they must be hoping that Saturday’s match against Manchester City won’t be their last match this season against a team from Manchester.
6. Internazionale (Ita) (5) – Defeated Cagliari 2-1 to move closer to their second consecutive (more if you count the ones abandoned by the cheating bastards) Serie A championship, but it’s not clinched yet. Just to make it interesting, Inter faces cross-town rival AC Milan on Sunday in what would be the most anticipated game of the weekend if it wasn’t for the next one I’m going to talk about.
7. River Plate (Arg) (8) – Defeated Argentios Juniors 4-2 to stay tied atop the Clausura with Estudiantes de la Plata. Like Sao Paulo, River Plate got an unfortunately tough draw in the Copa Libertadores, having to face fellow Argentine San Lorenzo, who defeated Boca Juniors this weekend, on Wednesday. Speaking of Boca, the game of the weekend will be when River goes on the road this weekend to face Boca Juniors in the Superclasico. Wish I could be there.
8. Porto (Por) (6) – You’ve got to hand it to Porto. They’ve already clinched the bwin Liga and this weekend they went on the road to play the second-place team in Portugal and they didn’t only come to play, they came to kick ass and take names, defeating Vitoria Guimaraes 5-0. Host Nacional in domestic action this weekend.
9. Real Madrid (Esp) (7) – Moved to within a Ruud Van Nistelrooy (sp?) nose hair of clinching the Primeral Division title, defeating Athletic de Bilbao 3-0. It helps that nobody in Spain other than Villarreal seems to give a damn about winning, and even Villarreal cares only every other week. Should clinch this weekend against Osasuna, or even sooner if everybody else loses again.
10. Roma (Ita) (9) - It got ugly quickly this weekend in Rome as Roma manhandled Torino 4-1 to keep Inter Milan in their sights. While Inter is facing AC Milan this weekend, Roma won’t exactly have it easy, playing a road match against Sampdoria.
