Newcastle and Sunderland Battle for £7m Ferdinand

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Sunderland boss Roy Keane is reportedly interested in Anton Ferdinand. The West Ham United defender has been linked with a move away from the club for over two months; the Black Cats are set to make a last ditch effort to bring the England Under-21 defender to Wearside.

Sunderland will be expected to pay in the region of around £7 million for Ferdinand, who had been hotly tipped to join Tottenham earlier in the summer.

It does now appear that Sunderland have jumped to the head of the queue, after Spurs apparently opted to sign midfielders as opposed to defensive signings.

Newcastle’s Keegan  will also be monitoring Ferdinand’s position very closely, and are expected to make an offer for the player very soon which may outbid the Black Cats.

Newcastle Deal: Duff for Ferdinand plus Cash

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Keegan has his eyes on Anton Ferdinand according to Geordie Websites and may be trying to come to some sort of deal to exchange Damien Duff for Anton Ferdinand + a fee for the Hammers defender.

West Ham are said to be asking for as much as £10m for Anton, a price that was much too high for Tottenham to consider, but Newcastle have come up with a solution that may be of interest to both clubs depending what fee West Ham are asking included in the deal.

Keegan is keen to build a central defensive partnership based on English under 21 players and Anton would be ideal to partner Steven Taylor.

Newcastle fans on the NUFC blog sites seem to be 50/50 about such a deal saying Anton would be great for the Magpies regarding his youth and style, but some would rather Duff stayed and was given a chance to prove his worth, as we did with Dean Ashton.

Personally i would want to give Ferdinand the same chance and with a full fit squad this season he may prove to be worth more than £10m as his brother was.

Impressive - West Ham 2-2 Newcastle (Video Highlights)

Tags: , , , , ,

By Rooster
I was impressed with West Ham in the first 41 minutes until bad defending let in The Toons 1st goal.
West Ham and Newcastle played out a see-sawing, if largely meaningless, end-of-season 2-2 draw. West Ham went 2-0 up inside 25 minutes through Mark Noble and Dean Ashton. By half-time it was all square, Obafemi Martins pulling one back and then Geremi deflecting the equaliser in with his shoulder.
Ashton could have made it 3-2 near the end but a great save from Harper gave the Toons a well deserved point.

Newcastle Keegan: The Hammers wont Score!

Tags: , , , ,

According to the NUFC Website, Kevin Keegan is under the impression West Ham will not be able to score a goal against the almighty Newcastle defence who now have a record of 3 clean sheets and are determined to make it a new record and make it 4.

Keegan told the Newcastle World TV:

“The defence has been outstanding in recent weeks,”

“But if the team is playing well it gives the defence something to hold on to.

“In the past I think there has been a feeling that if we go a goal down where are we going to get a goal from.

“I think they know now that we have got goals in us and we have shown that against Spurs, Reading and Sunderland in recent matches.

“But everyone is playing their part and there has been no weak link.

“It’s a great run of clean sheets and every time we play now we look solid at the back.”

Newcastle at the beginning of the season were dreaming of a top 4 place under the influence of Big Sam, are now in 12th place on 42pts and a GD of -16 have 3 tough fixtures, Away to the Hammers, Home to Chelsea, and Away to Everton, a loss to the Hammers will make it impossible for them to finish in the top half of the League.

My End of season prediction for the Magpies is to finish 12th on 42pts and a GD of -19.

West Ham, Not playing at their best at present, are on 47pts with a GD of -5 have 1 very tough game away to Man Utd.

The Hammers under enormous pressure from the fans will be determined to burst the Magpies bubble and keep Newcastle in the bottom half of the league.

My end of season Prediction for the Hammers is to finish 10th on 51pts and a GD of -5.

Keegan as usual your a joke, only weeks ago the whole world was laughing at you, the Hammers still will be on Saturday at 5pm and with Owen gone next season where will you finish then?.
