Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has laughed off reports linking him with a move to Manchester United, saying he would never swap Anfield for Old Trafford.

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has launched a dramatic late bid to sign Carlos Tevez from under the noses of Manchester United and Manchester City in a £25m deal.

Ancelotti made the last-gasp approach personally after getting Tevez’s phone number from fellow Argentina striker Hernan Crespo, who worked with Ancelotti at AC Milan four years ago.

However, Manchester City remain favourites to sign Tevez as they are offering wages of £140,000 a week.

Liverpool are also interested in the 25-year-old but their desire to spread the fee over the duration of Tevez’s contract makes the deal less appealing to the striker’s adviser Kia Joorabchian.

The Reds have, however, won the race to sign defender Glen Johnson from Portsmouth for a massive £19.5m.

Liverpool will have to finance the deal by selling defender Alvaro Arbeloa to Real Madrid for about £8m, while the fact that Portsmouth still owe the Reds £7m as part of the deal that took Peter Crouch to Fratton Park last summer will also reduce the overall fee.

Chelsea are closer to signing Manchester City striker Daniel Sturridge, whose fee will be decided by a tribunal, and CSKA Moscow winger Yuri Zhirkov for £15m.

However, Zhirkov has denied he is about to move to Stamford Bridge, claiming he wants to join Barcelona instead.

Defender Ricardo Carvalho, meanwhile, has launched a parting shot at Chelsea as he nears a move to Inter Milan, claiming they “should have given me more support” during his time injured last season.

Real Madrid have contacted a host of Premier League clubs with a list of nine players they are willing to sell in a bid to recoup some of the £150m they will lay out on Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo. Arjen Robben, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Klass-Jan Huntelaar, Wesley Sneijder, Rafael van der Vaart, Royston Drenthe, Javier Saviola, Gabriel Heinze and Mahamadou Diarra are the players available.

But Tottenham’s bid to sign Van Nistelrooy could be scuppered by the Dutch striker’s £90,000-a-week wage demands.

Spurs midfielder David Bentley is in talks with Aston Villa about a cut-price £7m move.

He will be replaced at White Hart Lane by Aston Villa winger Ashley Young, with Jermaine Jenas also travelling in the opposite direction to Villa Park as part of a bumper swap deal.

Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill will also step up his pursuit of Middlesbrough centre-half David Wheater after learning he will be allowed to leave for around £7m.

And the Northern Irishman is keen on taking £13m-rated Standard Liege midfielder Steven Defour to Villa Park, despite interest from Liverpool.

Everton are going to step up their interest in Reading pair Kevin Doyle and Stephen Hunt after Royals boss Brendan Rodgers confirmed he is ready to cash in on the striker and midfielder.

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes will make a bid for Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch if he is priced out of a move for Blackburn frontman Roque Santa Cruz.

Sunderland are closing in on a £5m deal for Manchester City defender Richard Dunne.

He could be replaced by Everton defender Joleon Lescott in a deal worth £16m.

And City are aiming to replace the Irishman with West Ham defender Matthew Upson, having made a firm enquiry for the 30-year-old.

Fulham are lining up a £4m bid for Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara.

Another Spurs midfielder, Didier Zokora, could also be on his way out of White Hart Lane after a settlement between the Londoners and Sevilla over Juande Ramos’s move to Tottenham in October 2007.

The Ivorian could be replaced by AZ Alkmaar midfielder Moussa Dembele in a £15m deal, although Chelsea are also interested in the pacy 21-year-old.

Tottenham striker Roman Pavluchenko could be on his way out of the club as the revolving door continues to swing at White Hart Lane, with Stuttgart willing to snap him up despite claims from former Spurs keeper Cesar Sanchez that the Russian is “impossible” to communicate with.

Veteran Manchester City midfielder Dietmar Hamann has held talks with German side 1860 Munich about resurrecting his career in Germany’s Second Bundesliga when he becomes a free agent at the end of this month.

Arsenal left-back Gael Clichy has ruled out a move away from the Emirates Stadium this summer, despite reported interest from Real Madrid.

The French left-back could be joined at the Gunners by Stuttgart midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger, who manager Arsene Wenger is keen to sign for around £5m.

Villarreal, Roma and Fiorentina are interested in signing Arsenal defender Phillipe Senderos, who has one year left on his contract at the Emirates Stadium.

Bolton have reignited their interest in signing Portugal midfielder Miguel Veloso from Sporting Lisbon by offering £8m for the 23-year-old.

And they are also interested in Portsmouth defender Sylvain Distin, Wigan pair Lee Cattermole and Hugo Rolladega, and Spartak Moscow midfielder Radislav Kovac.

As well as Portsmouth midfielder Sean Davis on a free transfer.

Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce has enquired about taking Chelsea striker Franco di Santo, 20, on loan.

Manchester City striker Felipe Caicedo claims a number of clubs in Portugal, Spain and England, including West Ham, are interested in signing him.

Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has claimed Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona have made an approach for France winger Franck Ribery.

And United are also continuing to monitor teenage Gremio midfielder Douglas Costa.

Sir Alex Ferguson is also leading the chase for Argentine midfielder Javier Pastore, 19, from Huracan.

Celtic midfielder Scott Brown has cooled talk of a move to the Premier League, with Tottenham said to be interested, by welcoming the appointment of Tony Mowbray as manager. “Under Tony we can win the title back next season,” he said.

Former Scotland midfielder Nigel Quashie will leave West Ham for Cardiff this summer.

Fulham are targeting Celtic’s loan striker Jeremie Aliadiere in a £3m move.

Strikers appear to be the order of the day at Craven Cottage, with manager Roy Hodgson also considering moves for Manchester City’s Brazilian frontman Jo and Inter Milan’s Robert Acquafresca.

Motherwell defender Brian McLean is a target for Hearts.

Galatasaray are close to an agreement to buy Zurab Khizanishvili from Blackburn Rovers for £2m.

Forgotten Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko could end his career at Monaco after his wife told him to join the French side.

Iceland international Hermann Hreidarrsson, available on a free transfer after his contract at Portsmouth expired, is interesting Celtic.

Newly-confirmed Watford manager Malky Mackay has confirmed he’s on the verge of signing Aberdeen skipper Scott Severin.

Sheffield United have been told they must double their £1.5m bid if they hope to sign Wales striker Ched Evans from Manchester City.

Celtic are poised to beat Rangers and Brugge to the signature of Gothenburg and Sweden central defender Mattias Bjarsmyr.

Celtic could join Rangers in expressing interest in out-of-contract Portsmouth defender Hermann Hreidarsson.

Liverpool next. Worried?

Regardless of where you stand in relation to the Europa league and whether or not it is actually desirable to qualify for it, presumably you would accept that if we are to finish in 7th spot we will need to gain a total of 2 points from the encounters against the mickey mousers (’pool and the Toffeemen) plus 3 against the Boro.
With Liverpool having nothing else to play for except pressing United as hard as they can, not to mention their 5 game run of 3 goals a game, only the most die-hard fanatic can be optimistic from a Hammers point of view. Do you fancy it?

West Ham United will face a stern test this week, when they face off with Chelsea in their week 34 Premier League match. This is a direct clash between two clubs in the top 7 of the Premier League.

In their most recent match the Hammers were able to hold out for an
important point away to Aston Villa at Villa Park. Diego Tristan of
Spain was the hero for the side managed by Gianfranco Zola as he scored
the equalizer 5 minutes from time. The important point leaves West Ham
in 7th place of the log with 45 points and they sit 1 point ahead of
8th place Fulham. Collison, Cole, and Behrami are all set to miss out
this week.

The visiting Chelsea have been one of the most consistent clubs in
the Premier League since the arrival of Russian National team boss Guus
Hiddink. The club is flying high these days after qualifying for the FA
Cup final. They presently sit in 3rd place of the Premier League with
68 points and trail 2nd place Liverpool by 3 points. At this time, Jose
Bosingwa is listed as doubtful.

Europa League - Wigan are favourites

Following on from my article yesterday in which I highlighted The Fail on Sunday’s Ian Ridley’s ludicrous bias towards the Spuds and the supposedly outstanding manager that Redcrapp is, it occurs to me that no one is really considering the likelihood that it is going to be Wigan who end up in 7th spot.

On paper, it’s a no brainer. Consider the remaining fixtures of the respective teams;
We still have to play 4 of the top 6, the Totts still have to play Manure, Everton and Liverpool, whilst the mighty Wigan face Blackburn, Bolton, West Brom, Stoke and Porstmouth as 5 of their last 6 fixtures.

Two Days ’til Tott’nam…….

I have to confess I’m right looking forward to it, heightened by the fact that I’m going. Also, I look forward to a performance that will at least eradicate the memory of our poor showing against them at UP earlier this season under Mr Curbs.
But, when you stop and think about it, just how big a game is this really? Currently Spurs are the capitals’ 5TH best team behind Chelsea, Arsenal, ourselves and Fulham. They are not our main rivals at the moment in footballing terms but more on an emotive and historical basis. Maybe this, to us, should properly be viewed as just another local derby.
Indeed, if you look at it logically, we have much bigger games coming up including matches against Chelsea, Liverpool and Villa. These are arguably the games which will determine how good a season we will have.
Actually, looking at the run in, I do see Spurs as just another mid table team of no consequence and I expect us to get at least something out of the game at the Lane on Saturday.

Time to get real?

I like to be a ‘glass half full’ type of guy but I am currently struggling to see how it is realistic for us to hold onto 7th spot given the events of the last couple of weeks in terms of injuries.
The loss of Barmi Behrami, Colly and the temporary absence of Cole will give us problems in my view.
Hopefully not against WBA, granted, but with trips to the resurgent spuds, villa and everton plus home games including Chelski and Liverpool, I believe that a mid-table finish is far more likely still creditable.

Collins dream of FA Cup Glory

I have to admit Collins is one of my favourite players at West Ham and it was a shame he was benched at the Fa Cup final against Liverpool 3 years ago, he could have made all the difference to the end result.

Now Collins is relishing the thought of another final at Wembley that he will take part in he said to the media about the last Hammers final and how he sees the next :

“It was a fantastic time in my career and that will stay with me for a long time – the celebrations after the semi-final,”

said Collins.

“Not being in the final was hard to take. Some of the other boys here haven’t been to a final before, it’s an amazing occasion and hopefully we can do it this year.

“I think I’m the only one in the squad that played in that semi-final, players have come and gone but I’m delighted to still be involved now.”

West Ham United have a great squad now and are proving to be a force to be reckoned with, lets just hope Collins dream does come true for all of us Hammers fans.

Baffled!

ASSISTANT manager Steve Clarke admits he is baffled by West Ham’s recent poor home form and has urged them to improve.

The Hammers’ last win at Upton Park came three months ago – against Newcastle – and defeats to Tottenham, Everton, Bolton and Arsenal have ensued.

In contrast, they have picked up points on the road at Chelsea and Liverpool and three more at Sunderland, and Clarke has warned his charges to stop the rot sooner rather than later – starting at home to Aston Villa today.

He said:

“I don’t understand why teams are struggling more at home than away. There’s no real reason for it or logic behind it.

“I wouldn’t say it’s grating at the moment, but it’d be nice to win a couple of home games.

“If I could work out why it was I’d have put it right a few weeks ago.

Expecting too Much?

Is Zola right about the top 4 clubs (we know who they are) becoming less and less of a threat to the smaller clubs?

and are we expecting too much from our clubs?

West Ham were the latest team to come away from Stamford Bridge with something after yet another disappointing performance from Chelsea but good from West Ham.
The Blues have already dropped 14 points at home, the same amount as the whole of last season.

3 wins, 4 draws & 2 defeats is hardly the form of champions, yet the 1-1 draw leaves Scolari’s Chelsea 2nd in the league, a point behind leaders Liverpool, who are hardly convincing at Anfield themselves.

Stamford Bridge was a fortress under Jose Mourinho and Avram Grant as Chelsea went unbeaten for 4 years, a run of 86 matches.

In stark contrast, Chelsea haven’t dropped a single point away from home, winning 11 conservative games including 8 in the Premier League, scoring 21 times and conceding a measly 1 goal in the process.

As the boo’s rang round The Bridge I found myself questioning the state of the game today. Is this a new phenomenon or has it always been with us?

Liverpool, Arsenal & West Ham respectively have all received the same treatment this season.  Do we expect them to win every game? Chelsea are battling on all 4 fronts and are still favorites to win the league. So why are their fans booing?

Well it is a only a minority of the fans that Boo and have every right too, the cost of season tickets and match day tickets gives them that right.

As a West Ham fan, i am happy to stick with Zola and his tactics, alot of  West Ham fans would not agree, he needs time and lets hope he gets it, what other options do we have? Fat Sam? errr no thanks.
